Swiss Re, the largest reinsurance company in the world, called on our team to redesign their RDS platform. RDS is a suite of services and capabilities that allows risk managers to better understand, evaluate, and quickly act on risks across multiple properties. Our challenge was not only to define the product, but to also establish a compelling value proposition, build a comprehensive design system, create a visual identity, and deliver a top-tier product all within the span of four sprints. I was the lead designer on this project.
Through testing, we discovered that risk managers found the current RDS platform bloated and not user-friendly. Users valued practical and actionable summaries of data, while still having the option to drill down into more detailed views when necessary.
Based on our research, we found it important to build the product around an insight-driven dashboard—insights that are supported by the specific data a user uploads. With this information, we were able to begin work on top-level user journeys, use cases, information architecture, and initial wireframes.
To ensure we accounted for all MVP features, we designed our wireframes against realistic use case scenarios derived from user testing and client insights.
After the wireframes were complete, we began developing a custom design system for the RDS platform, as well as the visual theme of the interface. Although this wasn't a specific ask from the client, I believe it helped us work quickly and efficiently when building the final high-fidelity screens.
After receiving an alert about a potential risk on the dashboard, a user can now promptly assess and respond with suggested actions, a capability that was not available in the previous platform.
A significant aspect of a risk manager's job is to input and manage data associated with their properties. We simplified this flow to make the process quicker and more efficient.
