The Wizard's Chest

Creating an identity for a magical Denver staple.

Project Brief

This rebranding project is for one of my favorite shops in Denver, The Wizard's Chest. First opened in 1983, "The Chest" sells a wide variety of games, puzzles, magic supplies, costumes, and more. Drawing inspiration from a medieval aesthetic, I wanted to inspire a sense of discovery and wonder that's lacking in their current branding.

Logos & Icons

Exploring logos and iconography.

Due to the diverse range of products and experiences offered at The Wizard's Chest, I concluded that a set of similar yet distinctive logos would be most suitable for the rebrand. These companion logos all revolve around a central badge featuring a castle that closely resembles the actual store.

Early process sketches developing the logos.

Colors & Type

Choosing unique brand elements.

Modesto was selected as the primary brand font due to its strong serifs and the distinctive "t's" reminiscent of a sword hilt. The color palette is prominently anchored in a parchment hue, evoking a nostalgic connection to medieval times.

Print & Promos

The key to a well-rounded identity.

Building out the brand further, new business cards and posters were designed by tying the typography, logos, and iconography into simple yet effective layouts. Custom illustrations were designed with the individual sections of the shop in mind.

Results

The project resulted in a strong brand identity for a business that was lacking a cohesive personality.
